Some sessions just come together in a really natural way—and Luke and Katie’s engagement session was one of those. It was my first time shooting at Sharon Mills County Park, and even with the brisk evening air, it ended up being such a relaxed, easygoing shoot.

A Chilly Spring Evening in Manchester, MI

Spring in Michigan doesn’t always mean warm weather, and this session definitely had a bit of a chill to it. The park was quiet, and everything felt still in the best way.

Since it was my first time at Sharon Mills, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect—but it didn’t take long to see why so many people love it. Between the brick pathways, open green space, and historic buildings, there were so many simple, beautiful spots to work with.

Getting to Know a New Location

Exploring a new location always adds a bit of creativity to a session. We walked the grounds together, stopping anywhere that felt right—nothing overly planned, just moving with the light and what caught our eye.

Sharon Mills County Park ended up being the perfect mix of structured and natural. The white buildings gave a clean, timeless backdrop, while the trees and early spring blooms softened everything just enough.

Keeping Things Simple (and Cozy)

They kept their outfits simple and true to their style, which worked perfectly for the setting and the season. Soft knits, neutral tones, and casual layers not only looked great on camera but also made sense for the cooler evening.

That’s always the goal—wear something that feels like you, and something you can actually move around (and stay warm) in.

Real Moments Over Perfect Conditions

Not every session has perfect weather, and that’s okay. Luke and Katie’s session is a good reminder that it’s less about the conditions and more about the connection.

Even on a brisk evening, with a new location, everything came together in a way that felt genuine and easy—and that’s what matters most.

If you’re planning your own engagement session and want something that feels relaxed, natural, and true to you, that’s exactly what I focus on at Love and Lace Creative Co.
