There is something special about the West Michigan shoreline. The rolling sand dunes, soft beach grass, and endless views of Lake Michigan create a timeless backdrop that never goes out of style. It's one of the reasons I find myself returning to this area again and again for engagement sessions.

This beautiful engagement session in West Olive, Michigan was everything I love about photographing couples along the lakeshore—peaceful, romantic, and effortlessly beautiful. While I like to keep this particular beach a hidden gem for my couples, it's easily one of my favorite places to photograph engagement sessions in West Michigan.

A Quiet Evening on the Beach

One of my favorite things about this location is how secluded it feels. Instead of crowded beaches and distractions, couples get to simply enjoy being together while surrounded by towering dunes, soft sand, and the calming sound of the waves.

These two embraced every moment together. They laughed, walked barefoot through the sand, and soaked in one of those perfectly overcast Michigan evenings that photographers secretly love. The soft clouds acted like a giant diffuser, creating beautiful, even light that allowed the focus to stay exactly where it belonged—on their connection.

There wasn't a need for elaborate posing or complicated prompts. The best images came from the quiet moments: forehead kisses, gentle embraces, and simply enjoying each other's company.

Natural, Relaxed Engagement Photography

One of the biggest compliments I receive is that my couples say they felt comfortable the entire session—even if they were nervous beforehand.

My goal isn't to make you stand stiffly in front of my camera. Instead, I guide you through movement and natural interactions so your gallery feels authentic to your relationship. The result is a collection of images that feel genuine, emotional, and timeless.

During this session, we spent the evening wandering through the dunes, watching the sky change colors, and letting the beautiful landscape do the rest.

Why I Love Photographing Lake Michigan Engagement Sessions

As a West Michigan engagement photographer, I'll never get tired of photographing along the lakeshore. Every session feels different depending on the weather, the season, and the couple.

Some evenings bring dramatic sunsets. Others, like this one, offer soft pastel skies and a peaceful atmosphere that perfectly complements romantic portraits. Both create beautiful memories that feel uniquely yours.

It's easy to see why so many couples choose Lake Michigan for their engagement photos. The scenery is timeless, the colors are neutral, and the experience feels more like an evening together than a formal photo session.
